Edeson Old Bailey Trial

Well, things sure have changed since v2.0.  Indeed, things have changed from when the 2018 Family Tree was created from what was then lifted from Ancestry.com and uploaded.

While the following is a brief update on Harold, new information on the Edeson family tree has also been included here.

After John Glasson completed his 2016 documentary, “The Peppercorn Tree – a lost family” a film that concentrated on his own branch of the Edeson tree onwards from Harold and Comfort, one of the biggest mysteries was still Comfort, even though she and I were not related.

As it happened, she was buried at the Preston Cemetery, where her surname was spelt as EDERSON, instead of EDESON.  John eventually tracked down her final resting place* which I was fortunate enough to visit soon after, and today has a memorial plaque to commemorate her life thanks to both John and another relation, Bill Marwick.  Of course, we are unable to discover what happened from when Harold left her to when she died.  Maybe one day.

*Grave location 9326 L: Church of England.

While Harold has been pretty much covered, we now have photos of the residences and townships where Harold and Alice raised their children, along with photos of gravesites and with a bit of info on some reasonably clever people who were related to Harold, again thanks to John Glasson.

After taking the plunge and buying into Ancestory.com for a month of ‘get what you can and get out’ rabbit hole surfing, I have been able to extend the Edeson name backwards in time.  I certainly cannot take all the credit here as the following must also take a share (of any possible blame ;-) ):

So, after all that, the Jones Family Tree (Edeson Chapter) from Project Harold v1.1 has certainly changed, with some very interesting twists and turns.  The Jones Chapter has also had a review, with a couple of inclusions as well, more about that later (*John Patching, 1549 trial and conviction to be drawn hung and quartered is a good example).  I’ll revise the chart of the Family Tree in the near future.

*Not confirmed and likely to be an Ancestry.com red herring.

In the meantime, the following is what is known today, from John Edeson, born 1485, and will include (where possible) birth details, places of residence, occupation, wife details and other points of interest, all the way down to myself.

An interesting sidebar here will be the story of Harold’s mother, Eleanor Peachey, which can be seen in a separate document… trust me, this is a good one and blows the theory of there being no convicts on the Edeson side of the family well and truly out of the water.

As many of the Edeson male line kept the same first name, I’ve named those in the direct Paternal line with the same first name as for example – “John Edeson I”.  So without further ado, starting from earliest known Edeson:

*note - the only hint of a change to the Edeson surname has been found here. While there is no known UK link to a Edeson/Edison connection, which may concern some family members, John Edeson, the great grandfather of the famed inventor, Thomas Alva Edison, signed his name, "John Edeson," but was also known by his Dutch patronymic name, "John Marceles Edah."
